GILLMOR ANNOUNCES VERIZON TO DIVEST LANDLINE OPERATIONS IN RURAL OHIO AREAS |
MOVE WILL PROVIDE OHIO CUSTOMERS WITH IMPROVED SERVICE AND NEW PRODUCTS |
COLUMBUS – State Senator Karen Gillmor (R- Tiffin) today announced Verizon Communications is planning to divest its local landline operations that serve residential and small-business customers in 14 states, including Ohio. The local operations will be acquired by Frontier Communications, which is based in Connecticut and currently has customers in 24 states. |

“Verizon will concentrate on its other businesses such as wireless communications, while Frontier will bring its established expertise in rural service to our area,” said Senator Gillmor. |
The transaction will make Frontier the largest provider of voice, broadband and video services focused on rural and smaller city markets in the nation. The company has a successful record of operating, acquiring and investing in rural telecommunications properties, having previously purchased landline assets from Verizon between 1993 and 2000. Frontier and Verizon will work together to ensure a smooth transition for employees and customers. |

Frontier’s acquisition of Verizon’s local landline operations will require the approval of the Federal Communications Commission and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, a process that could take roughly 12 months to complete. |
