GILLMOR APPOINTED TO SERVE ON SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE |
COLUMBUS—Ohio Senate President Bill Harris today appointed State Senator Karen Gillmor (R-Tiffin) to serve as a member of the Senate Finance & Financial Institutions Committee for the remainder of the 128th General Assembly. She sat on the committee for the first time this afternoon. |
“Since coming to the Senate, Karen has demonstrated a strong understanding of state finances and a passionate concern for ensuring that state resources are spent responsibly and efficiently, and with the best interest of Ohio taxpayers in mind,” said Harris. “These qualities, along with her professional experience, solid work ethic and attention to detail, will serve the Finance Committee and our caucus well as we continue to monitor the current budget and work to develop strategies to deal with the significant fiscal challenges that lie ahead for our state.” |
With more than 40 years of work experience in both the public and private sectors, Sen. Gillmor brings a wealth of knowledge to her position on the Senate Finance Committee. She was previously elected to two terms in the Ohio Senate beginning in 1992 and has served as Vice President and Assistant to the Chairman of Huntington Banks. Sen. Gillmor also holds a Ph.D. in Public Finance from The Ohio State University for which she wrote a retrospective dissertation on state and federal funding of higher education in Ohio. |
“It is critical that the Legislature manages Ohio’s limited resources in a responsible, effective and transparent way, because these decisions not only affect the stability of our state’s budget, but they have a direct impact on our economy and the future success and well-being of Ohio families and businesses,” explained Gillmor. “I would like to thank Sen. Harris for the opportunity to serve on the Senate Finance Committee. My colleagues and I have a difficult but necessary task ahead in the coming months to work together to come up with some serious, long-term structural solutions to reduce state government spending and help our state weather the budget storm that is coming in 2011.” |
In addition to her appointment to the Senate Finance Committee today, Sen. Gillmor also serves as vice chair of the Senate Health, Human Services & Aging Committee, as well as a member of the Agriculture Committee, Energy & Public Utilities Committee, Insurance, Commerce & Labor Committee and the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review. |
